Developing the project concept
Step 4 of 6
Research problem scoping
Goal: Define how you will get from today's state of the art to the impact you want, as a road map from inputs to vision.
With everything you now know about your research problem, it is time to become more concrete about how you are going to work with your project.
First you perform a gap analysis. This helps you understand what needs to be done to go from the current state of the art to a future where your innovation has created an impact.
Then you create a Theory of Change, where you investigate the inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, impact and vision of your project: essentially a road map that matches your gap analysis.
By the end of the workshop you should be able to define the resources (input) invested to facilitate the work carried out (activities) and the results the initiative generates (outputs) to achieve the desired change (outcome) and create the intended impact to fulfil the long-term objectives (vision).

Tools used in this step
Workshop tool
Gap analysis
Use this when you need to define what must change to get from today's state of the art to the impact you want.
Workshop tool
Theory of Change
Use this when you need a road map showing how your inputs and activities lead to outcomes, impact and the long-term vision.
